Village Show Rises to the Occasion

Earlier this month saw the 79th Annual Village Show at Packington Memorial Hall, with a fantastic turnout from local residents and those from neighbouring villages.

The very dry summer this year proved tricky for the vegetable growers but entries were more than made up with the abundance of beautifully baked homemade treats. Perfectly risen sponges and scrumptious sausage rolls were all part of the terrific display, along with homegrown flowers and craftwork items from adults and juniors alike.

After the entries had been judged, visitors were welcomed back to see the excellent exhibits. They enjoyed burgers and bacon rolls from Hill Farm and the friendly bar staff were on hand to serve drinks, while some lucky people scooped an array of raffle prizes, including Everyone Active and Bluestone Fitness gym memberships, Daybreak and Bull & Lion vouchers along with lots of other goodies. As is tradition, the event culminated in the fun and excitement of the auctioning off of all the exhibits.

Mike Powell, chairman of Packington Horticultural Society (PHS) said: “It was wonderful to see so many villagers turnout to enter and attend the Show. I’d also like to thank all the sponsors and those that donated raffle prizes, without which we wouldn’t have a show. A special thank you also to the committee and those who volunteered their time to help out in the run up and on the day itself to ensure the event was a success.”

All the proceeds are still be tallied but so far this year’s show has raised around £1,000. The money will be distributed to various village organisations as well as other wider deserving organisations, which will be announced in due course.

A huge thank you to our sponsors:
