After a year’s hiatus, Saturday 4th September saw the return of the 78th Annual Village Show at Packington Memorial Hall, with a fantastic turnout from local residents and those from neighbouring villages.
Despite the challenges of recent times, there was a terrific display of homegrown vegetables and flowers, craftwork items from adults and juniors alike and of course delicious home baked treats.
After the entries had been judged, visitors were welcomed back to see the excellent exhibits. Visitors enjoyed food from Biddulph’s Pizzeria and friendly bar staff were on hand to serve drinks, while some lucky people scooped an array of raffle prizes, including a Spa Day for two, a month’s gym membership, Daybreak and Bull & Lion vouchers along with lots of other goodies. As is tradition, the event culminated in the fun and excitement of the auctioning off of all the exhibits.
Our chairman, Mike Powell said: “The committee had been uncertain of the success of this’s show due to the events of the last 18 months, but it was wonderful to see so many villagers turnout to enter and attend the Show. It really does put into perspective what a great community spirit Packington has.
“As well as the local community, I must also thank all the sponsors and those that donated raffle prizes (listed below), without which we wouldn’t have a show. A special thank you also to the committee and those who volunteered their time to help out in the run up and on the day itself to ensure the event was a success.”
All the proceeds are still be tallied but so far this year’s show has raised over £1,300. As usual, this money will be distributed to various village organisations as well as other wider deserving organisations, such as Hospice Hope, Rainbows and the Air Ambulance. We will announce where the donations will go in due course.
We will also share a list of all the winners shortly.
A huge thank you to our sponsors:
And all those that donated raffle prizes including:
